Zhongxingwei unveils 12 mass-produced interconnect chips, says cumulative shipments reached 800,000 units

Chinese interconnect chip company Zhongxingwei has released 12 mass-produced chips and three new high-performance interconnect products, with cumulative shipments reaching 800,000 units, according to a Techub News brief citing Quantum Bit. The company said its product lineup now covers network interface cards, storage cards, and switch chips. General manager Guo Erhui said computing infrastructure is a systems project and that interconnect chips are critical to unlocking cluster efficiency. He added that Zhongxingwei’s PCIe 5.0 switch chip delivers bandwidth of 55GB/s, which the company said is comparable to benchmark products from major international vendors. The company’s products have already been included in solutions from Inspur, Lenovo, H3C, and ZTE, and have been deployed at scale across the internet, financial, and telecom operator sectors. In the operator segment, more than 100,000 of its storage cards have been deployed and have run stably for over 18 months.

US commerce secretary outlines chip tariff plan tied to building factories in America

US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the Commerce Department is weighing a new round of semiconductor tariffs that would favor companies investing in US manufacturing. Under the framework he described in a CNBC interview on Sept. 2, chipmakers that build factories in the United States could receive duty-free import allowances, while those that do not would have to pay to access the US market. Lutnick said the policy is being designed as a "precise" and "careful" system, and indicated that the amount of tariff-free chip imports would be linked to how much a company commits to American production capacity. He did not provide a final tariff rate, a full list of covered products, or an effective date. The report says the approach mirrors an earlier model used for pharmaceuticals under the Trump administration. It also notes that the US is already enforcing semiconductor tariffs under Section 232, with a 25% ad valorem duty on certain advanced semiconductors and derivative products from Jan. 15, 2026. The article adds that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has sharply expanded its US investment plans, while the potential tariff scope may extend beyond chips to laptops, data center servers, and gaming hardware.

China’s trade city rankings shift in the first seven months as Shenzhen widens lead over Shanghai and Suzhou moves to No. 3

China’s foreign trade rankings by city changed notably in the first seven months of 2026, with Shenzhen extending its lead over Shanghai, Suzhou overtaking Beijing for third place, and Wuxi entering the national top 10 while Qingdao fell out. Data released by the General Administration of Customs showed total goods trade reached 30.13 trillion yuan in the period, up 17.3% year on year. Exports rose 14% to 17.44 trillion yuan, while imports climbed 22% to 12.69 trillion yuan, reversing a 1.6% decline recorded in the same period last year. Shenzhen posted 3.42 trillion yuan in total imports and exports, up 32.8%, exceeding Shanghai by 422 billion yuan. A key change came on the import side: Shenzhen’s imports hit 1.65 trillion yuan, up 61.9%, edging past Shanghai for the first time on record, with 1.6457 trillion yuan versus 1.6449 trillion yuan. The reshuffle also highlighted strong gains from manufacturing and electronics-driven cities. Xi’an stood out with 100.4% growth, while Suzhou, Hefei, and Shenzhen also recorded sharp increases. According to the source article, cities with stronger chip and AI hardware industries were among the fastest-growing performers.

South Korea’s semiconductor exports rose 198.8% in the first 20 days of August

The Kobeissi Letter said on X that South Korea’s chip industry is still expanding দ্রুত under demand tied to artificial intelligence. The post cited data showing the country’s chip trade surplus reached a record roughly $35 billion in June, more than triple the level from a year earlier, while the trade surplus for non-chip products was only about $1 billion over the same period. It also said semiconductor exports from South Korea jumped 198.8% year over year in the first 20 days of August, and computer-related product exports climbed 242.1%. Overall exports rose 61.5% during the same period, marking a second straight month of gains above 60% after a 62.9% increase in July.

Jensen Huang Says Chip Industry Won’t Hit a Downturn Soon and May Need to Grow 5x to 10x

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the chip sector is unlikely to enter a downturn in the near term, arguing that the current AI boom is structurally different from past semiconductor cycles. Speaking in a wide-ranging conversation with Axios co-founder Mike Allen, Huang said the industry has historically moved through sharp booms and busts, but this time the expansion is not being driven by consumer demand. Instead, Huang said the current wave is being pushed by industry demand as core computing technology changes. He framed AI as a new layer of infrastructure that must be built on top of existing systems such as energy, the internet, roads and railways, with chips serving as a key dependency for that buildout. Huang added that the semiconductor industry may need to become five to ten times larger than it is today. In his view, the current shortages reflect a fundamental infrastructure gap rather than a normal cyclical imbalance or a consumer-led spike in demand. The remarks were cited by Odaily, referencing Jin10.
